drunomics joins the Drupal AI Initiative as Silver Maker

AI is transforming how we build and manage websites. At drunomics, we embraced Drupal AI early on and have already contributed to it. Becoming a Silver Maker was the logical next step.

Why Drupal is the perfect fit for AI

AI needs the right context to be useful. This is where the CMS comes in. But organizations also need to enforce their policies and control access to their content. Any AI integration has to obey those rules. Drupal's mature permission system and workflows combined with Drupal AI make this possible out of the box. This is what Drupal does well: powerful content management with governance built in.

Why become a Drupal AI Maker?

By contributing directly to the initiative, we collaborate with experts from Dropsolid, Acquia, 1xINTERNET, Salsa Digital, QED42, and others. True expertise grows through cross-company collaboration, following the open-source approach to build a truly flexible and powerful product.

The Drupal AI Maker program brings together agencies and organizations building AI capabilities for Drupal. The initiative is tackling ambitious goals like Canvas AI for page generation, background agents, governance tools, and content optimization agents. There are a lot of impressive tools being created, as a Maker, we can help turn them into truly useful, production-ready tools.

What we're working on now

Our first topic is the Mistral provider module, which we now help maintain. We've started working on a new 1.1 version, which introduces the partITech/php-mistral library as a new API client. Based on this new library, we've added support for tool calling and thinking models, such that the Mistral support becomes much more powerful!

But why Mistral? For many European organizations, data sovereignty isn't optional. The need for alternatives to US-based AI services is huge! Mistral, as a leading European AI company, fits that need. Drupal's Open Source Flexibility means you can choose your AI model and decide where and how it runs. As strengthening support for sovereign AI options is something we deeply care about, making sure the Mistral provider is well supported is an obvious fit!

Beyond that, we've started looking into other topics, like image classification and AI-assisted migrations. Moreover, Canvas AI improvements, governance workflows, and building good review UIs that keep humans in the loop are a priority for us.

The bigger picture

The Drupal AI initiative positions Drupal well as the best AI-powered Open Source CMS, with a focus on AI-human collaboration, trustworthy governance, and community-driven innovation. We believe this is the future, and we're doing our part to make it come true.
